DWTS 35 Recap: Premiere
Hey guys! Welcome to my first DWTS recap of the year! I am so excited.
If you don't know how my recaps work, I will be going through all of the dances & giving my own scores & critiques on them. I will also list my rankings based on personal enjoyment as well as the dances for next week.
This week was the two-night premiere. The men & their partners performed on Tuesday & the women & their partners performed on Wednesday & they danced to songs from the year they were born.
So, let's get into it.
Night one:
Dance: Cha Cha
Song: "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls
Judges' scores: 5, 5, 5 = 15/30
My score: 5
Jackson seems so humble & he is fun to watch. I actually loved the choreo & he had the performance value down. He just needs to work on his footwork but the potential is definitely there.

Dance: Tango
Song: "Are You Gonna Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz
Judges' scores: 6, 5, 6 = 17/30
My score: 5.5
When I first watched this, it was just okay but it didn't really stand out to me. Upon rewatch, it still doesn't stand out as much as the others but I liked it a lot more. It started off so strong. His frame & posture was nice for the first half of the dance but kind of got a bit stiff during the second half. Still a solid first dance, though. I'm also very happy Sharna's back.

Dance: Salsa
Song: "Whoomp! (There It Is)" by Tag Team
Judges' scores: 4, 4, 4 = 12/30
My scores: 4
This was a lot of fun to watch. The technique wasn't great but I love Conner & his energy. It looked like he was having fun & it was very entertaining. I'm really bummed for Adele, though but I'm hoping she'll come back stronger next season with a ringer.

Dance: Cha Cha
Song: "Mr. Big Stuff" by Jean Knight
Judges' scores: 4, 3, 3 = 10/30
My score: 4
Okay, I love Guillermo. He is so wholesome & I love how much fun he is having. As for the dance, he was a bit stiff but like Conner's dance, it was very entertaining.

Dance: Tango
Song: "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson
Judges' scores: 7, 6, 7 = 20/30
My score: 7
This is definitely one of my favorite dances from the entire premiere. There are not many celebs that can take my eyes off of Dani but my eyes were glued to Ezra. I was just in awe of this whole performance & I haven't stopped watching it. Based on this dance & the fans' support just this week, I think they are locked in for the finale.

Dance: Cha Cha
Song: "I Like It, I Love It" by Tim McGraw
Judges' scores: 6, 5, 5 = 16/30
My score: 6
This is one of the biggest surprises from the premiere. It was a lot of fun to watch. He obviously needs a bit of work but he has a lot of potential & I can't wait to see him do ballroom.

Dance: Quickstep
Song: "Tell Her About It" by Billy Joel
Judges' scores: 6, 5, 5 = 16/30
My score: 5.5
Going into the premiere, my exact words were "I feel like he's gonna be pretty good in ballroom" & I wasn't disappointed. I was actually pretty surprised. He obviously a bit of work but in my opinion - besides Johnny Weir - he is one of Britt's best partners, dance-wise.

Dance: Cha Cha
Song: "Let's Groove" by Earth, Wind, & Fire
Judges' scores: 7, 7, 7 = 21/30
My score: 7.5
This is, without question, the best dance of night one. Obviously, queen Jenna killed it with the choreo & he ate this dance right up. Also, the ending was hot.

Night two:
Dance: Jive
Song: "Knock on Wood" by Amii Stewart
Judges' scores: 4, 4, 4 = 12/30
My score: 4.5
It's very unfortunate that she made a mistake at the beginning of the dance & it kind of stuck with her & stayed in her head for the majority of the dance but she does have potential & I'm excited to see her improve.

Dance: Cha Cha
Song: "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas
Judges' scores: 6, 6, 6 = 18/30
My score: 6.5
This is one of the best dances of night two. I was very excited for this dance & she didn't disappoint. I don't really have anything negative to say about this dance but it just wasn't as good as some of the other dances. Still one of the best, though.

Dance: Foxtrot
Song: "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" by Whitney Houston
Judges' scores: 5, 5, 5 = 15/30
My score: 6
I actually really liked this. Her frame was nice. She just needs to finish her lines & she seemed a bit nervous & in her head but she has loads of potential & I can't wait to see more from her.

Dance: Tango
Song: "Venus" by Shocking Blue
Judges' scores: 5, 5, 5 = 15/30
My score: 5
I liked this a lot more upon rewatch & while it wasn't a stand-out for me, something I really liked about this dance is that Alan kept it simple & not too chaotic. I've seen some dances in the past that are so chaotic to the point where it's almost messy & you're like "what was that?" She just needs to work on her frame a bit & she needed a bit more attack.

Dance: Quickstep
Song: "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton
Judges' scores: 6, 6, 6 = 18/30
My score: 6
This was good. It just didn't stand out to me. Also, Andy Cohen can suck it.

Dance: Foxtrot
Song: "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles
Judges' scores: 7, 7, 7 = 21/30
My score: 8
Ummmm......EXCUSE ME???? In my opinion, this might be the best dance of the entire premiere (if not, one of the best). I've watched this like 1000 times already. Her frame & her lines for week 1 was crazy! This girl is unreal & I think, out of everyone in this cast, she is the most surprising. I can't wait to see her in latin.

Dance: Jive
Song: "Sk8er Boi" by Avril Lavigne
Judges' scores: 5, 4, 5 = 14/30
My scores: 5
First off, I feel really bad for Hailey. I was super excited to her she is a pro this year but, like Adele, I'm hoping she'll come back stronger next year with a ringer.
As for the dance, I thought it was fun & Sarah Jane was better than I expected. She had a little mishap & was out of synch at the beginning but I still liked it.

Dance: Tango
Song: "Call Me" by Blondie
Judges' scores: 6, 6, 7 = 19/30
My score: 8
As expected, my girl at this right up. Her frame was great. It was so sharp & there was so much attack. It was jam packed with Tango content (thanks, king). I do think she was severely underscored. If she wasn't going to get an 8, she deserved at least all 7s, but, anyways, I'm excited to see her Jive next week.
