DWTS 33: Halloween Nightmares Recap

Hey guys! Welcome to to another DWTS recap. I was going to post this yesterday before last night's show but I just didn't have time. Anyway, this week was Halloween nightmares night where each couple performed an individual dance and a dance off (I'll only be listing who I think should've won each dance-off). Since Chandler & Brandon were at the top of the leaderboard last week, they had immunity from the dance off.

Let's get into it.

Individual round

Ilona & Alan

Dance: Tango

Song: "Psycho Killer" by Miley Cyrus

Judges' scores: 8, 8, 8 = 24/30

My score: 8

I did really like this. It was just a bit slow for me and she was a bit stiff but they looked amazing.

Dwight & Daniella

Dance: Contemporary

Song: "Ring Around the Rosie" by District 78

Judges' scores: 10, 9, 9 = 28/30

My score: 10

Honestly, Dani is one of the best dancers I have ever seen. she eats it up every single time! Honestly, I would’ve given this a 10 too. This was incredible and it had me gagged the entire time.

Danny & Witney

Dance: Argentine Tango

Song: "Poison" by RAVN

Judges' scores: 10, 9, 9 = 28/30

My score: 8.5

I loved the choreo and he executed it well. However, it was just a little bit stiff here and there.

Jenn & Sasha

Dance: Contemporary

Song: "Vampire" by Olivia Rodrigo

Judges' scores: 10, 9, 9 = 28/30

My score: 10

This is definitely her best dance! Carrie ann gave out a lot of 10s this week that I didn’t agree with but this is one of the ones that I did agree with! This was amazing!!

Joey & Jenna

Dance: Argentine Tango

Song: "Ramalama (Bang Bang)" by Roisin Murphy

Judges' scores: 10, 9, 10 = 29/30

My score: 9

Can someone please tell me why Carrie Ann gave everyone but Chandler & Ilona tens, ESPECIALLY when Chandler's was probably the best dance of the night (I'll get into hers later)?

They are one of the best this season and I did love this dance but it wasn’t my favorite of theirs.

Stephen & Rylee

Dance: Contemporary

Song: "I Ran (So Far Away)" by Hidden Citizens

Judges' scores: 10, 9, 9 = 28/30

My score: 10

Wow! This was insane!! This was by far his best dance (so far) and honestly, this is some of Rylee’s best choreo so far! I am obsessed!

Chandler & Brandon

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Song: "Secret" by Denmark + Winter

Judges' scores: 9, 10, 10 = 29/30

My score: 10

This was the best dance of the season so far (imo) and Carrie Ann giving almost every dance a 10 but this one will forever boggle my mind! I haven’t stopped watching it!

Dance-offs (my winners will be in bold)

Dwight & Daniella vs Ilona & Alan - Cha Cha to "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr

Jenn & Sasha vs Stephen & Rylee - Salsa to "Jump in the Line" by Harry Belafonte

Joey & Jenna vs Danny & Witney - Jive to "Time Warp" by Little Nell, Patricia Quinn, & Richard O'Brien

Next week is the 500th episode of DWTS. Each couple will do a dance inspired by an iconic dance from the past. There will be an instant dance round where each couple won't know the dance or the song until 5 minutes before they perform. Here are the dances for next week (of course, excluding the instant dance round):

  1. Joey & Jenna - Contemporary to "Work Song" by Hozier (inspired by Riker Lynch & Allison Holker's Contemporary from season 20).

  2. Danny & Witney - Quickstep to "Hey Pachuco" by Royal Crown Revue (inspired by Helio Castroneves & Julianne Hough's Quickstep from season 5).

  3. Dwight & Daniella - Argentine Tango to "Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre)" by Gotan Project (inspired by James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess' Argentine Tango from season 23).

  4. Stephen & Rylee - Viennese Waltz to "Glimpse of Us" by Joji (inspired by Charli D'amelio & Mark Ballas' Viennese Waltz from season 31).

  5. Chandler & Brandon - Argentine Tango to "Para Te" by Appart (inspired by Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough's Argentine Tango from season 16).

  6. Ilona & Alan - Quickstep to "Chuck Berry" by Pharrell Williams (inspired by Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold's Quickstep from season 25).

That's it for this week's recap. Until next week,

~Brianna.
